1. What data we hold about you
What we hold is largely what you already gave us at the counter when you pawned:
- Name, identity card or passport number
- Telephone number and email address
- Home address, if given
- Your pawn ticket records: the pledge, the loan amount, dates, interest and payment history
This website asks you for nothing that the counter does not already have.
2. Why we need it
- To identify you, so that you see only your own tickets
- To send you a login code
- To show your tickets and the interest due
- To process your interest payment and extend the term
- To keep the records required by the Pawnbrokers Act 1972 and by tax law
3. Whether you must provide it
The data required to pawn is obligatory, because the Pawnbrokers Act 1972 requires us to keep those records. Without it we cannot transact with you.
An email address is voluntary. Without one your tickets are unaffected, but you will not be able to use this website and will need to pay at the counter.
4. Who we disclose it to
- CHIP IN SDN BHD, our payment processor, limited to what is needed to process your payment
- Authorities, where required by law, including the Ministry of Housing and Local Government or the police under the Pawnbrokers Act 1972
- Our professional advisers, such as accountants and auditors, limited to what their work requires
Beyond this we disclose your data to nobody. We do not sell your personal data and we do not use it to market anything to you.
5. Payment details
Your card number, account number and online banking password go directly to CHIP, not through this website. We never see them and never store them.
What we receive from the payment processor is only the amount of a payment, when it was made, and which pawn ticket it belongs to.
6. Cookies
This website sets three necessary cookies only:
- Your login session, so you need not log in again on every page
- Your chosen language
- A security token that prevents cross-site request forgery
This website uses no tracking, advertising or analytics tools and loads no third-party scripts. Because there are no unnecessary cookies, this website does not need to show you a cookie consent banner.
7. How long we keep it
We keep pawn records for as long as the Pawnbrokers Act 1972 and tax law require. After that, and where no legal need remains, the data is destroyed or anonymised.
8. Your rights
Under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it where it is inaccurate.
Please bring your identity card to the counter to make such a request. We do not accept these requests by phone or email, because we cannot confirm over the phone that the person asking is you.
